At Northfleet School for Girls, the safety, wellbeing and happiness of every student is our first priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people in our care, we work hard to create an environment where every student can safely ‘Dream Big and Achieve.’
All staff share responsibility for safeguarding and are trained to recognise and respond to concerns, working closely with families and external agencies where necessary. Our safeguarding approach reflects both our clear vision of student wellbeing along with meeting all statutory and best practice guidance.
Our full Safeguarding approach and practices are shown in our Safeguarding Policy as shown on this page
• All staff are regularly and appropriately trained to identify concerns and report appropriately
• Any safeguarding concerns are reported through our ‘my concern’ system and addressed by the safeguarding team, utilising external agencies as required.
• Our site and day to day practices are regularly evaluated, including perimeter security and practicing responses, such as fire and lockdown drills
• Students are supported through a clear education programme as shown below
• All our recruitment and HR processes follow KCSIE and Safer Recruitment practices including whistleblowing policies if required
• Regular external reviews – including by Governors and KCC safeguarding teams
There is an organised and age appropriate programme of events through all year groups which aims to support students in developing safe and healthy life practices, this will include areas such as road safety, online safety and knife crime.
These are delivered through:
• PSHE programme.
• Assembly programme.
• Base time activities.
• Promotion via website, social media and display screens.
• Off timetable days – such as Dream Big Days.
• Visiting speakers.
• Individual/bespoke support for identified individuals.
• In school staff will report via ‘my concern’ or direct approach to a member of the safeguarding team, followed up by written details in ‘my concern’
• Students can report concerns via any member of staff, however this is usually via their ESL, the online worry box or a member of the safeguarding team
• Clear reporting system and regular audits on actions/impact
• Parents can report any safeguarding concern via their child’s ESL or using the safeguarding contact details at the base of this page. However it is important to note that pastoral concerns should still be directed via your child’s ESL
