HOMEWORK
INFORMATION

All students will have homework set across their subjects. Unless specified otherwise students will complete at least one piece of homework per subject a week, this may increase in Year 10-13. We believe that homework has a positive impact on a student's learning and understanding if it links to learning, rather than just being an add on. Homework will be posted on Google Classroom.

The purpose of homework is to consolidate and deepen learning; to develop independent study skills and also prepare for learning ahead. Homework can be set in an array of styles – as an extension of class work or a retrieval activity, completing assignment tasks, mini projects, undertaking research activities or answering examination-style questions and revisiting gap topics.

The expected duration of homework increases from Year 7 through to Year 13 as follows:

  • Year 7 and 8: 30 minutes per subject.
  • Year 9: 30-45 minutes per subject.
  • Year 10 and 11: 45 minutes – 1 hour per subject a week.
  • Year 12 and 13: Up to 5 hours per subject a week.

    Homework:

  • Should be purposeful, meaningful and relevant to the curriculum.
  • Should be Interesting and challenging.
  • When appropriate open ended and assessed by teachers with feedback and support provided.

  • Caveat - there is no expectation that homework will be marked, but there is an expectation that it should be referenced in class.

    GOOGLE CLASSROOM
    INFORMATION

Google classroom is a web-based platform that integrates Google Apps for Education. Students and staff can access the classroom from home or school, perfect for homework.

Classrooms are set up by staff. An access code is given to the student to access homework assignments, communicate, and stay organized.

    How it works:
  • Teacher creates an assignment with an attached Google Doc.
  • Student edits the copy of the homework and turns it in.
  • Teacher grades the assignment.
  • Student reviews and edits the copy of the homework.

  • Both the teacher and students can see a list of pending and completed class assignments. The teacher can see all of the grades for an assignment, and students can see their own grades for completed assignments. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback in the Classroom.
