FAST TRACK
PROGRAMME

To support students achieving in all aspects of their academic career, we provide two key components as part of the Fast Track Programme.

Students who are capable of achieving the highest grades are placed in one of our ‘Grammar Stream’ classes. As an additional offer for all students, they can join our Fast Track enrichment programme to support them in developing the whole person and learning skills to enter the most aspirational careers and professions.

What does Fast Track Aim to Achieve?

• Develop academic interests and foster a love of learning leading to the best academic grades.
• Challenge and support to develop whole person skills to enter the most aspirational careers.
• Targeted career support so that students know how to enter aspirational careers.
• Opportunities to develop as leaders of the future and leaders of learning now.

How do students join Fast Track?

Students must complete an entry project which is focused on assessing a number of skills and a completing a creative brief. Each year we admit students who have passed the Kent 11+ test and choose to attend NSfG, these students are usually suitable for our Fast Track programme, however it is not a requirement to have taken the 11+ to join the Fast Track programme.

Membership of the programme is reviewed in Year 9, and the programme continues to provide tailored opportunities for our students into our Sixth Form, enabling our students access to Russell Group universities and supporting them to embark on aspirational careers.

STUDENT
COMMENTS

Key Stage 3

100% of students on the programme feel satisfied as a member of the programme and feel supported by their Fast Track leaders.

Students commented:

‘I enjoy our drop-down days because we can do work that we do not normally do like in Maths or Science and it actually trains us for life.’ ‘Now when teachers ask questions, I now start to put my hand up quite a lot and now I feel that I can share my thoughts and feelings confidently since joining the programme.’

‘I really enjoy how supportive our leader is of us.’

Key Stage 4

91% of students on the programme felt more confident, able to express new skills learnt as part of Fast Track inside and outside of the learning environment. Students commented:

‘I believe I have become more creative with my ideas as I am now able to think outside the box for example, when someone gives me a task I am able to extend my ideas further. I also believe I have gained more teamwork skills as before I would have been nervous to work in a group with people I don't know but now I am confident enough.’

‘When a public speaking trainer came in for our drop down day to help us learn how to be able to deliver speeches it helped me because from the previous knowledge and skills that I gained from the drop down day I was able to apply them when I did my English speech.’

‘I have started to show more skills and confidence in lessons. I put my hand up more than I used to and I’m not as worried about getting things wrong. I can tell I’ve improved compared to before.’

Key Stage 5

100% of students felt the programme was helping them to reflect on their learning and on their future career aspirations, and 100% of students felt the programme was positively impacting on their grades.

Students commented:

‘I am able to transfer my knowledge and revision methods in order to support someone else’s learning. By communicating with someone from lower school I am able to engage actively and discuss my strengths alongside their strengths and learn something new each week.’

‘I enjoy having opportunities to go on trip to build my cultural capital.’ ‘I'm glad I joined fast track, and got to know the people, and the person who leads it and I think it overall has had a positive impact, especially actually getting accepted onto the programme, is just a boost in itself.’

Student Feedback

"I think that the "togetherness" aspect of the school is positive as it encourages people to participate and form bonds."
