NORTHFLEET
COMMUNITY FARM
We are a registered charity based at Northfleet School for Girls in Kent. Our aim is to educate students and the local community in various aspects of farming, including agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, food production, healthy eating, and protection and improvement of the natural environment.
Our Key Stage 3 students really enjoy their time on the farm. The links with healthy living and our science and technology curriculums move through into landbased and animal management qualification opportunities. In addition we welcome visiting primary and special schools to experience the farm environment with supported activity events. The wildlife pond has been part of our Eco projects and apples from the orchard and fruit bushes have been harvested and cooked in school.
Local groups also access the area and take an active role in maintaining and supporting the farm. Kasbah volunteers are frequent visitors with students coming from Ifield and other local schools. We welcomed our first chickens to the site in March 2016 and these were shortly followed by rabbits and guinea-pigs as permanent residents which are cared for by farm club members.
We have added to our farm gradually with the introduction of ducks, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. We have goats that we foster from Buttercups Goat Sanctuary and bees with the support of Dartford Beekeepers Association. We will continue expanding the farm and are looking forward to raising our lambs this year!
